The Black Mamba Robbed Once Again.
When you hear the name “Kobe Bryant” you automatically think about that fourth quarter magician who can seamlessly make opposing teams leads disappear. Kobe, is without a doubt one of the greatest players to ever play the game. With all of his awards, records and accomplishments, it’s no wonder he is often compared to the great, Michael Jordan.
However, one thing that surprised me when I read about it, (which is why I’m writing this article), is that Bryant, only has one League MVP on his NBA resume. Kind of surprising isn’t it. Well it’s true, and unfortunately for the Black Mamba, he is playing in a new era of basketball. An era where the old running and gunning, high flying Kobe would fit right in. Now however, he is settling to score in the half court offense. Don’t get me wrong, he still does this with extreme ease. It’s just that players like LeBron James (who already has two MVP honors) can get out and run to score and pass, and that is what dominates this league. Half court offensive scorers like Bryant, receive little credit. As a result, it would seem that dreams of another MVP award for Kobe are long gone.
Does this change the way we should look at him? Of course not! He is one of the most gifted basketball players to ever step foot on an NBA court and has in his own way, revolutionized the game. Whether or not he does win another MVP award in the next few years, will not affect his legacy.
